Course Background:

The field of immunology has exploded in the past 30 years and has found itself in nearly every therapeutic area.  You could say it has become the “biochemistry of cell biology”.  The immune system not only plays a role in fighting infectious diseases but also cancer, autoimmune disorders, pain, and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s.  The immune system has been found to communicate with our gut microbiome and protect the mother during pregnancy and the fetal-allograft from maternal rejection.  With the era of personalized cancer immunotherapy is upon us – the “immunologists’ toolbox” has never been so critical in our understanding of how we, as a species, interact with our environment and how we protect our host biological ecosystem from both foreign and self-inflicted pathogenesis.  This seminar will review some of these paradigms and recent advances in the field.  This course requires a basic understanding of immunological mechanisms.

Matthew M. Seavey, PhD, MBA – Founder & President of BioPoint Consulting, LLC, holds over a decade of drug development experience.
